Tarragon

Common Name: Tarragon

Botanical Name: Artemisia dracunculus

Artemisia dracunculus, better known as Tarragon, is a perennial herb cherished for its fragrant, narrow leaves and subtle anise-like flavor. It is widely used in culinary applications, particularly in French cuisine, and is one of the four fines herbs of French cooking.

Medicinally, Tarragon is used for its digestive benefits, helping to stimulate the appetite and relieve digestive discomfort. It is also believed to have mild sedative properties that help improve sleep quality.

In beauty, while Tarragon is not prominently featured, its essential oils are sometimes used in aromatherapy and perfumes for their soothing and calming effects.

Tarragon’s interesting fact is its name derivation from the French word ‘estragon,’ meaning ‘little dragon,’ which is rumored to come from its roots’ coiled, serpent-like appearance or from an ancient belief that it could cure snake bites.
